5 best tips for an awesome school assembly performance

Hi everyone!

Today I am going to tell you about how to have a great school assembly performance.

School assemblies are an effective way to communicate ideas and induce a learning spirit in children. They are also a great way to incorporate a learning aspect to an entertainment. School assemblies are great for performers because they give you great exposure. You know your audience and their age group before you go into perform and so you get a better chance of preparing and planning your show. For some performers it becomes a bit difficult to perform at school assemblies and today I would like to share my own personal experiences with you and how I make my school assembly performances a great success.

Here are 5 best tips that would help you have a great performance at school assembly.

  1. Get their attention, unless you have full attention of your audience you can not take them along on the fun journey and soon they would lose interest.
  2. Getting their attention is one thing, keeping it is another. As any parent, guardian, or teacher will tell you, children of all ages have short attention spans. The assembly should have content that appeals to that adrenaline-filled spirit in children. If it does, they'll be on the edge of their seats.
  3. Always be mindful of the time. You have limited amount of time, manage it purposefully and wisely. You must let your audience get the most out of it.
  4. Your performance must have a message at the end, no matter how engaged a student becomes, he or she must also be learning. This is paramount to any good assembly program. Make sure at the end children are going to learn something very useful and practical from your performance.
  5. Use TV shows, drama and magic tricks to entertain your audience and keep them focused.

For Ventriloquists:How to find the best voice for your puppet

Hi everyone!
This post is for my ventriloquists friends. Today I am going to help you in finding the best voice for your puppet. While selecting the best voice and personality for your puppet you should consider the following:

Are you comfortable  while using that voice?
How does your throat feel while using that voice?
Would you be able to maintain the voice through out your story?
Can you remember the voice?
Are you audible enough for everyone in the audience while using that voice?
Does it fit your puppet's appearance and character?

If the answer to all the above questions is "YES", then you have found the perfect voice for your puppet! :)

How to write excellent jokes

Think of a time when you’ve made your friends laugh while just hanging out. Those laughs came from your specific shared context, which you used to make a clever observation, a cutting put-down, or something else that was funny. In this case, the premise—the setup—is woven into the fabric of ordinary life. Your hilarious quip (or whatever) was the punchline.
Lot of people have contacted me after my shows and have asked me about how to write good jokes. So I finally decided to reveal some of the tricks I normally use for writing the jokes.
Before going into the detailed discussion about how to write excellent jokes, first let us try to understand why people laugh. Because this is why we are trying to write jokes, to make people laugh!
The number one element that triggers human laughter is SURPRISE. It’s like magic, only with words. A magician surprises the audience when he does his trick. If there is no surprise, there is no trick. The formula for any magician is to have surprise. Without formulating surprise, you’re gonna have one hell of a boring act.
It’s the same with comedy. Once you understand this, you can do one of two things:

  • .      You can start to ramble and figure out how to surprise your audience
  • .      You can develop an understanding of the structures or “formulas” in comedy that create surprise for the audience, whenever you want.

So this brings us to the next question, how can we create surprise?  The simplest and easiest way to do so is to start your joke as a story, captivate your audience. Then makes them believe one thing and surprise them with something different. And that would be your punch line.
That was easy, wasn’t it? Now let me share few more tips about writing great jokes.

  • Think about an interesting topic. An easy target may be a current event, celebrity, or something well known to your audience.
  • Twist it from something serious to anything that is entertaining or even absurd.
  •  Use familiarity in your jokes. Build up your joke on something that is common and your audience is familiar with it
  • Exaggerate things but don’t overstress while doing so.
  • Always be brief with your jokes, keep them short, simple and easier to understand for your audience
  • Show the irony in your jokes and twist them to make them funny
  • Always keep your audience in mind, be watchful of their mood
  • Playing with the numbers and always remember that truth is funny.
  • Never laugh at your own jokes, you must stay serious while telling jokes, a nice and simple smile is enough.

How to speak without moving your lips (Ventriloquism)

Hi everyone!
I have been thinking about writing a new post on blog for like past 4 days but was so busy that couldn't managed to do so. But today I finally decided to write one.
So today, I am going to teach you  "how to speak without moving your lips" or  basic ventriloquism.

Learn to speak without moving your lips.
  • Let me tell you something that would surprise you, You my friend are already half ventriloquist! so is everyone! don't get it? let me explain it to you. Slightly open your mouth and now try saying these alphabets
A,  E, C, D, G, H, I, J, K, L, N, O, Q, R, S, T, U, X, Z
  • Successful? you must be! So that was easy.
  • Now let us move to the tricky part.  Hold a finger over your mouth as if trying to tell someone to be quiet. This will help prevent your lips from moving.
  • You'll notice that the letters "b," "f," "m," "p," "q," "v," and "w" will make your lips move.
  • To say these without moving your lips, you must use substitutions. For "b," say "d" or "geh." For "f," say "th." For "m," say "n," "nah," or "neh." For "p," say "kl" or "t." For "q," say "koo." For "v," say "th." And for "w," say "ooh".
  • You may think the new words with the substituted letters sound ridiculous, but if you learn to put the stress on the syllables that don't contain these letters, the words will begin to sound natural.

Please give your valuable feedback in comments :)

Photos of my friends and their puppets

Hi everyone!

Few days ago I asked some of my friends to send me their photos so that I can share them on my blog.
I am going to share two of them, Bill Klaus and Bob Conrad.

Both are great performers and I would really suggest all my readers to watch their shows if they ever get a chance.

So here is Bill Klaus
This is camper Billy the oldest living cub scout and his twin brother....e.j.
e.j. is the puppet. He is the oldest living Boy Scout.  They are actually twin brothers.. E.j. is just 6 minutes older then camper Billy, but he aged differently because his first merit badge was earned for smoking.......that’s right "smoking" not cigs, but food.....
When he built his smoke house he loved the smell of the smoking meat that he would sit in there smelling the meat. I think he smoked himself....that’s why he looks so old..

And this is Bob Conrad
