Puppet script (A dog, Elephant and the King)

Hi everyone,
I would like to share this puppet script with you, a nice story about a dog and elephant and their friendship. Hope you would like it :)

Characters:
  • Narrator
  • Dog
  • Elephant
  • Elephant-Keeper
  • King
  • Minister

SCRIPT:

Narrator: Once upon a time, there was a royal elephant that lived in the premises of the king’s palace. The elephant was very dear to the king, so he was cared, well-fed and well-treated. There was a Dog who used to live in the neighborhood of the Elephant shed. He was very weak and skinny. He was always fascinated by the smell of the rich sweet rice being fed to the royal elephant.

Dog: Wow, I love that rich aroma of the rice. I can not resist that smell! I will get into the Elephant´s Shed and eat the sweet rice that falls from the Elephant´s mouth.

Narrator: And so he did.

Dog: I will start coming daily to eat the rice. Anyway, the elephant hasn´t even notice me, because he´s so busy enjoying his delicious food.

Narrator: The Dog became bigger and stronger by eating such rich food. He came under the notice of the Elephant.

Elephant: Who are you? How long have you been here?

Dog: Hmmmm I just got here.

Elephant: I can share my food with you. Would you like some?

Dog: Sure, why not! It looks delicious.

Elephant: It is, wait till you taste this sweet rice. Mmmm it´s so good.

Dog: I can see that.

Narrator: Soon, both of them also started sharing time with each other and soon, they made good friends.

Elephant: Come here everyday to eat, you are my best friend. And you can also stay here to sleep.

Dog: Thank you, I accept your invitation. You are also my best friend.

Narrator: So, they ate together, slept together and played together. They became great friends and didn’t want to get separated from each other. Then one day, a man saw the Dog and asked the Elephant-keeper.

Man: I want to buy this Dog. What price do you want for the Dog?

Elephant-keeper: The dog is not mine, but I will sell it to you.

Man: It´s a deal.

Narrator: The man took the dog to his home village, which was quite far away.

Elephant: I am very sad, my dear friend is gone. I miss him so much. I don´t want to eat anymore. I don´t want to do anything.

Narrator: The Elephant-keeper reported this to the King, but he didn’t say anything about the Dog.

King: I´ll see what I can do. Minister! Come this instant.

Minister: Yes, my king. What can I do for you?

King: Go to the Elephant shed and find out the reason for the Elephant’s condition.

Minister: Right this instant, my king.

Narrator: The intelligent minister went to the Elephant shed and found the Elephant very sad. He looked the Elephant all over and asked the Elephant-keeper.

Minister: There is nothing wrong with this Elephant’s body, then why does he look so sad? I think he is sad possibly due to the loss of a dear friend. Do you know if this Elephant shared a close friendship with anyone?

The Elephant-keeper: There was a Dog who used to eat, sleep and play with the Elephant. He has been taken by a stranger three days ago.

Minister: Where is the Dog?

Elephant-keeper: I don’t know.

Narrator: The minister went back to the King and said.

Minister: Your majesty, in my opinion, the royal Elephant is not sick, but he is lonesome without his dear friend, the Dog.

King: You’re right, friendship is one of the most wonderful things of life. Do you know where that Dog is?

Minister: Elephant-keeper has informed that a stranger took him away and he didn’t know about his whereabouts.

King: How can we bring back my Elephant’s friend and make him happy again?

Minister: Your Majesty, make a declaration, that whoever has the dog that used to live at the royal Elephant’s shed will be penalized.

Narrator: The King did the same and the man who took the dog, instantly turned him loose when he heard the proclamation. When the Dog got free, he ran back as fast as he could to reach the Elephant’s shed.

Elephant: Oh I am so delighted to see you!

Dog: Me too. I missed you so much. You are my only friend.

Narrator: The elephant picked his friend with his trunk and made him sit on his head. The Dog waved his tail, while the Elephant’s eyes sparkled with happiness.

King: I am glad to see that the Elephant is happy once again. Minister, you will be rewarded for your wise judgment.

Narrator: And both, the Elephant and the Dog lived happily thereafter.

Monkey Latex Puppet Script

Hi everybody!
Few days ago I shared some photos and description of my baby monkey latex puppet, I got a very positive feedback and I thank you all for visiting the blog.
Today I am going to share a script that can be used with the monkey latex puppet. Those who have missed the previous post can click HERE to get it.

Monkey Latex Puppet
Monkey Latex puppet script

Characters: Narrator, Chimpo (Boy Monkey puppet which makes a noise when you hit his nose), Sneeze-a-lot (Girl Monkey)

Props: Bananas, banana skins (the rest can be pretend)

Note: Words in quotation marks are spoken by the Narrator to the puppets or on behalf of the puppets.

Narrator: Once upon a time, in a deep, dark part of the jungle in Cambodia, there lived two little monkeys, Chimpo and Sneeze-a-lot.

“Chimpo! Chimpo!” Can you kids help me call out his name so we can find him?

(eventually Chimpo shows up, dancing around with a banana skin on his head until he falls over and his banana skin goes flying into the audience) “Chimpo, what have you been doing? You silly monkey!” (narrator taps Chimpo on the nose, and Chimpo says “Ouch” and shakes his head – this happens every time we say the words “you silly monkey”) Kids, can you say hello to Chimpo? Let’s say, “Hello Chimpo, you silly monkey” (as they do, the narrator taps Chimpo on the nose again, “Ouch”).

That was kind of fun! Shall we do that again? “Chimpo, you silly monkey” (taps him again, and again he says “Ouch”, maybe repeat this a few times if you get a good reaction)

“Chimpo, have you been getting yourself into trouble yet again?” (shakes his head).

Yes, as you can see, Chimpo was nearly always getting himself into trouble. Now when you’re getting into trouble, you always need someone sensible who can help you get out of trouble!

(Sneeze-a-lot comes out with a beautiful ribbon around her head and a big bow). “Hello Sneeze-a-lot” (she delicately waves and blows the narrator a kiss).

Sneeze-a-lot was Chimpo’s friend. She’s such a nice monkey isn’t she? Kids, can you say hello to Sneeze-a-lot, “Hello Sneeze-a-lot. What a lovely monkey!”

Now, Sneeze-a-lot and Chimpo both really like bananas (monkeys jump up and down when shown bananas). Does anyone here like bananas?

Well, Sneeze-a-lot had been asking Chimpo for a very long time when he was going to ask her over to his tree to eat bananas (Sneeze-a-lot makes signs like she’s asking to come over).

But Chimpo didn’t want her to come over because he was very messy and he didn’t want his friend Sneeze-a-lot to see how messy his tree was (Chimpo shakes his head, NO).

Then one day, Sneeze-a-lot said to Chimpo, “Stop being such a silly monkey!” (she taps him on the nose) What did she say? (kids repeat “Stop being such a silly monkey!”, tap Chimpo’s nose each time). That’s right. Sneeze-a-lot said to Chimpo “Stop being such a silly monkey! (taps his nose again) I’m sick of waiting and I’m coming over to your tree today at 10 o’clock. We’re going to eat bananas together, and you’re going to show me where you live.” (Sneeze-a-lot acts like she’s telling Chimpo off)

Well, as you can imagine, Chimpo was very worried about this (starts shaking and acting very scared) … but he knew better than to argue with Sneeze-a-lot.

He hardly had any time! He ran back to his tree and started to clean up a little (frantically runs around pretending to clean up). But before long, he heard Sneeze-a-lot’s voice saying, “Chimpo! Chimpo! I’m here! I’m coming up and I hope you’ve got those bananas ready!”

There was no time left. Chimpo couldn’t do anything else to clean up his messy tree. So he just sat down and waited for Sneeze-a-lot to climb up … which only took a second … you know how fast monkeys can climb!

When she arrived, the first thing she said was, “You have a lovely view from your tree Chimpo. I can’t believe how long it’s taken you to invite me over to your tree to eat bananas! But before we start eating, I’d like a tour of your tree because I’ve never been here before!”

Well, Chimpo knew better than to argue with Sneeze-a-lot so he said, “OK” and started the tour.

“This is where I sleep,” he said, pointing to one part of his tree. “And over here …”

But Sneeze-a-lot interrupted him and said, “You sleep on a big pile of banana skins?”

Chimpo was a little bit embarrassed, “Well, I had breakfast in bed today.”

“Hmmm,” said Sneeze-a-lot. “You really are a silly monkey! (taps him on the nose) You shouldn’t leave your food scraps in your bed because they go all yucky and can make you sick! Take those outside right now!”

So Chimpo cleaned up his bedroom and threw all the old smelly banana skins out of his tree.

“That’s much better,” said Sneeze-a-lot. “Now, let’s continue the tour.”

The next part of Chimpo’s tree they came to was his table. Now, let me tell you about Chimpo’s table! It had lots of dirty banana leaves stacked up as high as the next branch, with food scraps and little bugs crawling all over them … and it was really, really smelly!

Sneeze-a-lot said to Chimpo, “This is a mess! Don’t you ever clean up your table? Don’t you know how sick you can get from leaving this big mess here, you silly monkey (taps his nose again). You need to clean this up too!”

So Chimpo cleaned up his table, and threw all the old, smelly banana leaves out of his tree.

“That’s much better,” said Sneeze-a-lot. “Now, let’s continue the tour.”

“Well, there’s not much else to show you,” said Chimpo. “I only have a small tree … but it has a great view! How about we eat some yummy bananas now?”

By now, Sneeze-a-lot was getting really hungry so she said, “That sounds great Chimpo. Where can I wash my hands?”

“Well,” said Chimpo, “There’s a little stream just over there that you can use but why do you want to wash your hands? They look clean to me!”

Sneeze-a-lot was horrified and said, “Do you mean to tell me you don’t wash your hands before every meal, you silly monkey (taps his nose again). That’s so yucky! Don’t you know you can get very sick unless you wash your hands before every meal? You are such a silly monkey (taps his nose again).”

So both Sneeze-a-lot and Chimpo climbed down the tree, went over to the stream, and washed their hands.

“Now,” said Sneeze-a-lot as she and Chimpo climbed back up Chimpo’s tree. “Isn’t that much better? Let’s eat!”

“OK,” said Chimpo, “But I really need to go to the toilet first otherwise I might burst!”

By now, Sneeze-a-lot was even more hungry so she said, “Well, OK. But hurry up – I haven’t eaten for a long time and I’m really hungry for some yummy bananas.”

So Chimpo went over to where he had all his bananas and squatted down. Sneeze-a-lot was watching.

“Hey Chimpo. What are you doing?” she said. “I thought you were going to the toilet?”

“I am,” said Chimpo. “Can’t you give a little monkey some peace and quiet? I need to concentrate!”

Well, poor Ngala was just horrified! “Chimpo! I can’t believe you’re going to the toilet right next to the bananas we’re about to eat! You silly silly monkey (taps his nose many times). Don’t you know how sick you can get if you go to the toilet where you eat your food? Yucky yucky yucky!”

Chimpo stopped what he was doing and came back over to Sneeze-a-lot, “I’m sorry,” he said. “Sometimes I get hungry when I’m going to the toilet so I thought it might be nice to eat a few bananas at the same time. Maybe I’ll use my outside toilet from now on.”

Little Chimpo climbed down his tree and went off to find his other toilet while Sneeze-a-lot cleaned up the mess in his house. Because even though Chimpo said he’d cleaned things up, he really didn’t do a very good job.

First of all, she cleaned up where he was sleeping and made sure there weren’t any food scraps left, then she cleaned his table and threw out the mess he’d left behind. And lastly, she cleaned up where he had been going to the toilet.

When she’d finished all this cleaning, she climbed down out of the tree, went over to the stream, and washed her hands again just to make sure they were clean.

She arrived back just in time to find Chimpo sitting down in his beautifully clean tree. “Now can we eat some bananas? I even washed my hands on the way back!” said Chimpo.

“Yes,” said Sneeze-a-lot, “I think we’re ready to eat. Where you sleep is clean, where you eat is clean, we’ve both washed our hands, and where you go to the toilet is nowhere near your food … we’re ready.”

“OK good,” said Chimpo. “I don’t suppose you brought any bananas did you? I had a closer look when I was trying to go to the toilet the first time and all the ones I have are too green to eat!”

And can you guess what Sneeze-a-lot said? That’s right, “Chimpo!! You are a SILLY MONKEY! SILLY, SILLY SILLY!” (taps his nose each time).

Elephant Puppet Script

Hi everyone!
Yesterday I found this script, you can use it with an elephant puppet.
elephant puppet

Characters:

Boy

Blind man 1

Blind man 2

Blind man 3

Blind man 4

Blind man 5

Blind man 6

Guide

SCRIPT:

Setting: Somewhere in Asia where an elephant is passing by.

Boy: (enters stage running and yelling). An elephant! Everybody, come see it, it´s coming, it´s coming. Everybody come out, come and see the elephant… An elephant!

(the blind men enter stage walking slowly with their cranes).

Blind man 1: I don´t know how an elephant looks like.

Blind man 2: Me neither.

Blind man 3: Me neither.

Blind man 4: I would like to know how an elephant looks like.

Blind man 5: Let´s wait so we can touch it.

Blind man 6: We will touch it with our own hands. Our fingers are our eyes.

Guide: (enters with the elephant). Excuse me, ladies and gentlemen, this big elephant needs to walk through here. Be careful.

Blind man 1: (walking) Good man, please let this poor blind men touch your elephant. We want to know how it looks like.

Guide: OK. Get near one by one. He´s not dangerous. Don´t be afraid.

Blind man 1: (touches the elephant´s body). Mmmm, I can see: The elephant is like a rough wall.

Blind man 2: (touches the elephan´s leg). No, you are wrong. The elephant is like a tree.

Blind man 3: That´s a lie, that´s a lie! My hands tell me clearly that the elephant is like a spear.

Blind man 4: You are completely wrong. I also touched it and I am sure that it´s like a hand fan, and my fingers don`t lie to me.

Blind man 5: Nobody lies to me. The elephant looks like a snake.

Blind man 6: None of you know how an elephant looks like! I think that the elephant looks like a rope to tie packages.

Blind man 1: How do you dare to insult me? I am sure that it looks like a wall.

Blind man 2: I am telling you that it looks like a tree.

Blind man 5: No, it´s like a snake.

Blind man 3: Snake? Not at all! I am sure it looks like a spear.

Blind man 4: It`s a lie. It looks like a hand fan.

Blind man 6: It´s a rope! It´s a rope!

(the blind men start fighting with each other. There´s great confusion and everybody is talking at the same time).

Blind man 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6: No one will say that I am wrong… Take this! Ouch, ouch… but I am right…. It´s a rope… It´s a wall… It´s a spear… No, I am telling you that it´s a hand fan… A tree, it´s a tree… Who hit me? Ouch, my back!

Guide: Calm down, calm down! Be quiet! Listen… listen… I will explain everything.

(there`s silence in stage)

Blind Men 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 : Why? …Why?

Guide: (gets into the elephant) Because each of you only touched a part of the elephant. The one who touched the body thought it was a wall. The one who touched the leg thought it was a tree. The one who touched the tusk imagined a spear. The one who felt the ear tought it was a hand fan. The one who touched the trunk remembered the snake, and the shortest one, that only could touch the tail, was sure that the elephant was like a rope.

Blind man 5: Now I understand. Yes, that´s what happened and we all got angry.

Guide: You got so angry that you started fighting with each other.

Blind man 1: We behaved like fools.

Blind man 2: We were wrong.

Blind man 3: We got so furious.

Blind man 4: Because all of us thought we were right.

Blind man 5: But none was.

Blind man 6: Instead of trying to understand.

Guide: Of course, to know the truth we have to know every part.

Blind man 1: We thank you, and the elephant too, for teaching us that it´s better to agree with each other and try to know the truth. Now we know that reality is different depending on how we see it.

Blind man 2: Let´s be friends again.

Blind man 3: Let´s get to know the elephant.

(The blind men walk around the elephant touching it at the same time).

The End.

American poet John Godfrey Saxe (1816-1887) based this poem, on a fable that was told in India many years ago.

Author: A Fable from India

7 Great tips for a live puppet show

Hi there! Today I am going to give you some great tips I have learned from my experience about throwing a great live puppet show. Live shows are great, you have the flexibility of adjusting your content and length of your show and you have the option of communicating with your audience and responding to them.
Okay, lets get back to the "tips"and here are few tips I have used to improve my shows.
live puppets show

Memorize your script. That is a must, the worst thing you can do in a show is forget your lines and end up saying something you should never or read a script during your performance. Memorize the script well and you will be breathing life into your puppet.
Memorizing a script can be tricky at times. I usually create a bullet list of important things and this always works for me. It allows me in moving from one point to other without forgetting important lines I have to use.
At times a routine is still difficult even if I make bullet points out of it, in that case I rewrite it. Works for me, may be would go fine with you as well. Give it a try. Rewrite it and make it comfortable for yourself.

Always be mindful of your audience. I always rewrite and modify my routines to suit my audience. A good routine can be rewritten to suit any age group. Something funny for a preschooler might be boring and dull for the 5th or 6th grader and vice virsa.

I always try to turn my routines to real conversations. Do not perform your skit word to word, practice it as if it is a real conversation and engage your audience. Ask your audience to repeat your words, or ask them interesting questions.

Know your audience, each one of the crowd has a personality and is unique in his own way. Quickly identify their personality and you would be better positioned to get their attention.

Develop a personality for your puppet, ask yourself questions like How old is he?, Where is he from? What accent he has? his family, friends, birthday etc.

Make your transitions perfect. A good transition helps the audience move along with you and understand the message you are trying to convey.

Last but not the least, always remember, puppetry is an art that involves discipline, great stage presence, enthusiasm and perfect timing. Practice is the key to success. You can use these tips to enhance your performances, with a little extra degree of effort and hardwork you will soon become a pro :)

Good luck for your shows! :)

Advantages of latex puppets

Hello folks!
Today I am going to tell you why the latex made puppets are so awesome and why they would help you in throwing a great show that your audience would love. So let us come down to advantages of latex puppets.

  1. The latex puppets give a realistic sculptured look and are fascinating to watch. Their eyes look as if they are actually moving.
  2. They are almost living cartoons. You can make a great character out of a latex puppet with little or no effort.
  3. The latex puppets are super lightweight and allow you to perform with them for hours. They are also very comfortable from inside.
  4. They are easy to handle, if you are a ventriloquist you would find the synchronization very easy.
  5. They have no slot jaw and the flexible skin make them look so real and natural.
  6. They are easy to carry, If you buy one from www.allpropuppets.com you get a custom carry bag without any extra charge and ton load of extras to customize your puppet for the occasion.

For Ventriloquists:How to find the best voice for your puppet

Hi everyone!
This post is for my ventriloquists friends. Today I am going to help you in finding the best voice for your puppet. While selecting the best voice and personality for your puppet you should consider the following:

Are you comfortable  while using that voice?
How does your throat feel while using that voice?
Would you be able to maintain the voice through out your story?
Can you remember the voice?
Are you audible enough for everyone in the audience while using that voice?
Does it fit your puppet's appearance and character?

If the answer to all the above questions is "YES", then you have found the perfect voice for your puppet! :)

For Ventriloquists: How to change your voice

For a ventriloquist its very important to change the voice and have a distinct and different voice for each character. Today i am going to show you some of the tips that would help you change your voice according to your characters.

You can make it higher like Mickey Mouse type voice. (This is called a falsetto voice)
You can make it lower like Santa Claus. (Ho, Ho, Ho)
It can be gravely like Oscar the Grouch. (Hey, who knocked on my can?)
Sweet and soft like Snow White.
Bumpkin, like Goofy.

The most important thing is to make it different than your own. This will make your puppet stand out on its own. You also need to give your puppet a character. All that means is if your puppet likes baseball or dancing, camping or anything that you like. This will give your audience a good idea of your puppets character. Once you have created a character you then need to make it come alive by movement. This is also called manipulation. Your puppet needs to move like it's real. A good way to do this is to practice in front of a mirror or video camera. Make sure that the puppet is constantly moving in a natural motion. If you are looking in one direction have the puppet look in another direction. Make it look quickly to one side and open and close the mouth even if it's not saying anything. Move its body and arms as a real person would.

Once you have a good voice and good manipulation then its time to try ventriloquism.

The most important thing about ventriloquism is to try not to move your lips. There are ways to practice this, in our alphabet there are letters that make your lips come together. These letters are B-F-M-P-V-W.

If you place a pencil in between your lips and say the alphabet, these letters will make your upper and lower lips come together. Just try it.

Your feedback is extremely important to me, please leave a comment and tell me how you feel about this.
Thank you.

How to become an awesome ventriloquist

Being a ventriloquist, today I am going to share some of the best tips I have learned so far. Ventriloquism is the art of making an inanimate object seem to come alive. This article provides tips and instructions for becoming a good ventriloquist.

Learn to speak without moving your lips.
Hold a finger over your mouth as if trying to tell someone to be quiet. This will help prevent your lips from moving. Then, go through the alphabet. You'll notice that the letters "b," "f," "m," "p," "q," "v," and "w" will make your lips move. To say these without moving your lips, you must use substitutions. For "b," say "d" or "geh." For "f," say "th." For "m," say "n," "nah," or "neh." For "p," say "kl" or "t." For "q," say "koo." For "v," say "th." And for "w," say "ooh". You may think the new words with the substituted letters sound ridiculous, but if you learn to put the stress on the syllables that don't contain these letters, the words will begin to sound natural.

Change your voice.
A convincing "vent" voice must be very different from yours. Try to listen to yourself speak. Do you speak loudly or softly? Fast or slow? Do you have a low voice or a high voice? Try to make your partner's voice different from yours in all or most of these categories. To change your voice, you must use different functions in you body. For example, notice that when you speak and pinch your nose, your voice changes. One excellent way to help change your voice is to force air through your nose instead of your mouth when you speak. Another good way is to force the sound from deeper inside your throat, and also force the sound from the diaphragm. To force the sound, pretend you are about to cough. You'll notice that the muscles around your stomach will tighten. Now, using those muscles, try to speak. This will result in a deeper, raspier voice, which can also be handy, depending on what type of personality you want your partner to have.

Bring your new friend to life.
Decide what kind of partner you want. You must always make sure that his or her personality is different from your own, to give the illusion that you are not the same person. If you are a kind, responsible person, make your partner a mischievous jokester. Just choose something that will contrast your personality.

Try to find a dummy that will fit that character.
For example, if your imagined character is a young, energetic boy, don't pick a dummy that's an old man or a young lady. Make sure to pick the right partner for your needs.

Convince yourself that your partner is completely alive.
Once you've done this, it will be easier to convince an audience. Try to make sure that, from the moment you pick him or her up (take him or her out of his case, bed, etc.) and grab the controls, he or she is totally alive. Have him or her tell you stories about what he or she has been up to, where he or she goes to school, etc. Even though you are technically making this up, it will help you believe that there is life in your partner.

 Animate your partner properly.
There are many different control schemes for dummies, but a good, average one that is excellent for beginners and even for advanced vents is one with a moving head. Be careful while purchasing your dummy that you don't buy one with a string on the neck to operate the mouth. Buy one where you put your hand in the back, grab a stick attached to the head, and push a trigger to move the mouth. This is key when animating your partner. When your partner speaks, make sure his or her mouth moves with every syllable that he or she speaks. Also, keep your partner moving, even when you are speaking. This will make the audience think that he or she is real. Also, be sure to remember the amount that he or she is moving. If he or she is young and energetic, have his or her head move quickly and shake while he or she is speaking. If he or she is an older person or a sleepy child, have his or her head move slowly and not very much. Be sure that the head isn't moving too much while he or she speaks, or this will distract the audience from the actual speech. Try to observe real people as they speak, and have your partner mimic those movements.

 Have fun with it.
A big factor in being a good ventriloquist is having passion. You must always practice the art. Practicing every day will eventually make you a fantastic ventriloquist. You also don't have to practice only by sitting and speaking with your partner. Play games with your partner, watch TV with him or her, bring him or her to family get-togethers and have others meet him or her. Whether you are taking up ventriloquism for fun or for a career, make sure you are having fun with it. The illusion of life doesn't come easily, but you just have to believe in your friend to make him or her come alive.
